Chronic Illness: Allergies, Dyslexia,
Addictions and Weight Loss

“A whack on the side of the head, a kick in the seat of your pants.”

Over half of all Americans suffer from a chronic illness; people are suffering all the time with illnesses that never go away (that’s a definition of chronic). The costs of chronic illness are overwhelming the healthcare system—so many people are sick and suffering all the time.chronic illness

These chronic illnesses are physical as well as emotional. Some take years to cause damage, some can be life-threatening; all prevent us from living lives to the fullest.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Many of these conditions can be addressed using simple protocols because in many cases there is an underlying cause. Let’s deal with some of them.

What do these conditions of chronic illness have in common?

  • Allergy
  • Dyslexia
  • Smoking
  • Addiction
  • Weight loss
  • Bad habits
  • Obsessive thinking
  • Being stuck in a rut (professionally, financially, creatively, interpersonally)

All of the above are caused by noxious endless or repetitive “tape loops” that don’t stop “thinking.” It’s like a computer virus that keeps replicating. These repeating loops or “viruses” keep playing in the background, below your consciousness and can divert your energies, trap you in physical, emotional or physiological states or “habits,” and interfere with growth, creativity and healing.

This interference keeps you in a state of physical, emotional and physiological dis-ease or less than optimal function. The more of these “loops” playing the less energy available for being fully alive.

Chronic illness: your perfectly created body and mind are caught in a traptrapped in chronic illness

As a result of our energies spinning round and round, trapped without a resolution, we may experience physical and mental exhaustion, fatigue, weakness, disconnection, malfunction, overreaction or underreaction.

A too-common example of a “tape loop overreaction” is an allergy, another is a phobia that locks us in fear. Another is simply what we refer to as a habit or an addiction.

Many people’s lives are trapped in a series of automatic reactions that they often feel they cannot control. They are caught in a web they have spun themselves, knowingly or unknowingly.

Can these tape loops be located and addressed?

Can we stop our “tape loops” and “reboot”?

Breaking noxious tape loops to promote self-healing is a natural part of life. We often automatically release bad neurological habits or bad tape loops when we experience a deep sleep, and when we grow, learn and exert the effort to change our evil ways.

Sometimes it doesn’t happen automatically

Sometimes these tape loops are so engrained that we are trapped by them for our entire lives unless they are addressed directly and purposefully.

Breaking bad “loops”

group discussing chronic illness

There are many ways you can turn off or interrupt your “loops” so you (and your patients) may open, heal, grow and enhance creativity. These include meditative disciplines, inspiration, prayer, creative activities, learning new skills, CranioSacral therapy, and desensitization procedures such as Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques (NAET). To this list we may add working with inspiring teachers, a good therapist and even getting whacked on the side of the head by a Zen master.*

A “pattern interrupt” for chronic illness

Koren Specific Technique (KST) is a protocol that locates and addresses areas of blockage, subluxation, fixation and stress that other healers often miss. When KST was initially discovered, it was used to release chronic pain as well as physical and emotional discomfort.

But as we saw allergies, dyslexia, bad habits, addictions and other issues quickly resolve we realized we were addressing something deeper: noxious or adverse neurological “loops.” When these loops are interrupted or released it is called a “pattern interrupt.”

To speed up the work and make it more efficient, we developed flow charts to help us locate and open these noxious loops. A gentle physical intervention is used to quickly and easily interrupt and “reset” our malfunctioning “software.” The result is less neurological stress on the entire organism.

In other words…

Another way of saying it is KST is “a whack on the head, a kick in the pants” but gentler. This has been demonstrated by objective means by Dr. Richard Barwell who has done pioneering work on neurological biofeedback using the NeuroInfiniti™ instrument. Dr. Barwell writes:

When stressors overload the processing resources of the brain, self-regulation begins to fail. Maladaptive neurological patterns lessen the body’s ability to ideally adapt and respond. When the system can no longer cope, the nervous system develops symptoms to make the person aware that there is a problem.

The “NeuroInfiniti” instrument can show how the brain deals with different types of stress and its ability to recover from the stressors. We have been able to demonstrate the effectiveness of KST to improve neurological function “live time” using the “NeuroInfiniti”.**

Does it work? How can KST help chronic illness?

Let’s take a look at allergies, a very common chronic illness:

Wife’s dog allergy

Two weeks ago, I used the KST allergy/sensitivity protocol on my wife who is severely allergic to dogs and cats. When I was done, she pretty much shrugged her shoulders and said, “That’s it? No more allergies?”

We both pretty much forgot about it and went on with our lives. Two weeks later, we visited a friend who has two dogs. When we showed up with the baby, their two dogs were jumping all over my wife and daughter giving kisses and sniffing the baby, etc.

We stayed for two hours and my wife was on the floor playing with the baby and the dogs covered in dog hair, without ONE SINGLE REACTION! Finally, our host said, “How are you still here without skin breakouts and lung wheezing?” For the first time in years she was able to pet dogs and be covered in dog hair and not have one single reaction. In the past, we had to bring her to the ER because of severe allergic reactions (even if a dog licked her skin one time, an itchy rash would break out within seconds.)

Allergies, itchy skin, insomnia

Male patient suffering for years with itchy skin. I have him touch the area that is the worst and ask the body: chemical priority comes up. He also has multiple allergies: cat, dust, and mold. Five days later and his skin has not itched once since the allergies were cleared.

The interesting thing is that he has been sleeping for 12-14 hours per night since the correction. Prior to clearing the allergies he had suffered from severe insomnia for as long as he could remember.

More than allergies…

Allergies, sciatica, neck pain and more

A 40-year old lady initially presented with severe sciatica and neck pain. Having been to a chiropractor a few years ago she said she needed ‘clicking’ back into place. I explained that that approach wouldn’t get deep enough for true healing to occur this time.

After just a couple of KST visits the sciatica and neck pain were vastly better…she also reported that her 20-year history of allergies and sensitivity to alcohol had improved dramatically where she no longer needed her medication. She then had a relationship break up. During this phase, we did some more KST adjusting focusing on emotional stress…. She felt this really strengthened her through a difficult time.

And more chronic illness:

Sinus issues (two-year-old)

One of my patients is a two-year-old with allergies, lots of sinus issues and is on allergy medicines. After one visit using KST the sinus issues went away as well as the cough from post-nasal drip. He is feeling so much better.

His mom said she took him off the allergy meds and he is doing fine. He is even talking more and having fewer tantrums due to being off the meds.

Allergies

I adjusted a female patient using KST for the first time. She has really bad allergies and taking daily medication and said that she hasn’t had to take her allergy medications since then. Really cool! All my patients are intrigued by the “new weird thing” I’ve started doing.

Jane Baxley, DC, Danville, California

Some examples regarding reading issues:

Dyslexia

A four-year-old boy, an adopted meth-drug baby, with tunnel vision, dyslexia and many other learning challenges. The optometrist wanted to wait until he was 5 years old to treat his tunnel vision, and initiate specialized five days a week intensive therapy sessions for one month.

I saw him three times a week for two months. Most of his KST corrections were of his cranials and cervicals while he performed a particular activity that challenged him. In just two months of KST care his tunnel vision, dyslexia and learning challenges problems resolved.

Lynn Buckler, DC, Three Rivers, California

Dr. Koren adjusted my daughter. He said she had signs of birth trauma. Immediately afterward (the very next day) she started passing her reading tests.

In fact, she had failed every single one of the tests between 3rd and 4th grades! Now she is passing 100% of them and her teachers can’t believe the remarkable change in her performance at school. I asked my daughter if she wanted to share her secret of what she did to make her smart with her friends and she emphatically said, “No way, I want to continue being the best reader in class.”

Jason Finch, DC, Lynn Haven, Florida

And more…

A 6-year-old girl’s biggest issue was reading; four months prior she had been diagnosed with dyslexia. After one KST session her reading and comprehension improved so much that her teachers commented on the abrupt change.

I remember the day she came busting through the doors and exclaimed “Doctor Ella! My letters do NOT get mixed up anymore. I can read like my friends!” With that, she let out a small smile and sat on my lap for a hug.

Ella Coffren, DC, Westbrook, Maine

At age 12 my daughter hated to read and when reading aloud she pronounced words backward many times.

She had one KST session while reading and immediately began expressing an interest in reading more. My daughter said, “I don’t feel anxious anymore when I read.”

She has become an avid reader and we often find her tucked away reading Jane Austin, Louise May Alcott, Agatha Christie or other classic authors.

Bad habits and addictions are chronic illness:

Smoking, coke addiction and more…

I didn’t know my patient had a smoking and coke habit but at her 2nd visit she told me she tried to have her nightly fix [after I saw her] and they tasted horrible.

Crazy thing, addictions and habits, even more so to see them so quickly removed with KST.

Here’s a list of the most recent clearings: cigarettes, soda, fruit punch, movie theater popcorn, chips, baguettes and one habit she wouldn’t tell me about, but we cleared it from her just thinking about it.

Beth Kiser, DC, Lorain, Ohio

Smoking and drinking

A high-strung bank teller came in for care. She returned one month later saying after the visit she instantly stopped smoking and drinking with no cravings. She says she is a new person.

Peter Kravchenko, DC, Hanover, Ontario, Canada

Lots of bad habits!

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

After only 3 KST sessions my patient is washing her hands about 50% less. She has had therapy for almost a year without any results. She is still on Prozac but hopefully will be able to get off that soon.

Jens Korgaard, DC, Newington, Connecticut

Trichotillomania (obsessive hair pulling)

An 11-year-old girl was suffering from trichotillomania, the compulsive urge to pull out (and in some cases, eat) one’s own hair leading to noticeable hair loss. KST corrections were done…. Now she touches her hair but seems to be able to control herself. She rarely pulls out her hair.

Masahiro Goto, DC, Obihiro-shi, Japan

And finally …

Weight loss

I have experimented with using KST for addictions. The people I do these adjustments on are totally freaked out because their habits do really change. For example, one female patient lost 30 lbs., another lost 21 lbs. Another quit her chocolate, sugar and Diet Coke™ addiction.

Interestingly, the weight loss adjustment doesn’t seem to increase metabolism, but changes the person’s eating habits.

Are you in need of a pattern interrupt? Learn KST and break free of chronic illness.

*This example was related to me by Dr. Wen (Johnny) Gou of Taipei, Taiwan who writes:

Totally powerful beautiful way of encapsulating it. Zen masters strike the back of the head at unforeseen moments, this I think is what you so succinctly call “pattern interrupt” of the “tape loop.” These new metaphors are really invigorating and revolutionizing our understanding and practice of KST!

You had a seminar in my office when LACC wouldn’t let you have it there. I also went to one of your seminars. This was 10-12? years ago. I have used it a little, but in the last 2 weeks I found your seminar book. I can’t even tell you what has happened. The cranials, the ask the body anything type of questions, etc. I have been muscle testing for over 35 years with great success but this is a new incredible level! Thank you, Dr. Koren. Waiting for a seminar in S. Ca.

    Dr. Hughes,
Nice to hear from you and so glad you pulled out your manual and your work has moved to a new level. We’ve discovered so much more since we met you in 2008 and think you’d really enjoy attending another seminar. We’ll be in Seattle this November. Why wait?

I’ve been in practice for twenty five years and had been feeling a bit burned out. I love Chiropractic and my patients, but found myself “searching” for something more. Not sure how to explain it, perhaps the OD was calling me? I know that sounds weird, but then I listened to Dr. Koren at a State Convention and found myself going to my first KST seminar two weeks later in Philadelphia. Deep down I knew there was more to discover with Chiropractic. The more I learned the more I realized that this is exactly what I was looking for. It was like coming home after a long trip. Now the passion and enthusiasm has been restored and I’m having more fun in practice than I have in years! KST absolutely takes Chiropractic to the next level. Thanks Dr. Koren!
